Disqualifying the Speaker

This is what The Hindu actually published of my letter on disqualifying the Speaker:

If Mr. Chatterjee voluntarily forfeited his membership of the CPI(M), what was the need for the party to expel him? Casting a vote is an extraordinary device that the Speaker uses only when there is a deadlock in the House.

Politicians must be accountable

This is a letter the Deccan Herald published.

Politicians must be accountable

Sir,

The editorial, Playing Politics (DH, Aug 1), occasioned by the objectionable comments made by Ms Sushma Swaraj about the recent bomb blasts, was timely.

Such comments, whether well considered or off the cuff, are made by our politicians day in and day out. Some of them had been downright boorish and personal, like the “Sikhandi” one used by a former central minister against the Prime Minister.

The revulsion such utterances cause to the sensitive and sensible among the public apart, from where do the mouthers of those indecent and unproven abuses made in public and to the public, draw immunity?

The targets of such attacks, for obvious reasons, are usually found to ignore them, as did the Prime Minister, but the people have every right and reason to demand accountability from the disruptors of their sensibility. May I request DH to start a forum that will at least highlight such utterances and invite readers’ responses?
