When Hubble Stared at Nothing for 100 Hours
Our vision of the universe will keep on expanding, thanks to advances in technology and pioneers like Galileo, Hubble, and now Williams. Many more will join their list before the human species becomes extinct through natural evolution or its own folly. Inflating the reach of god to keep pace with the expanding vision of the universe in this context may speak more of one’s own anxieties than of god himself. What thrills me, rather, is the prospect of the earthlings getting a chance to exchange notes with an intelligent alien species before their own inevitable exit. Amen!
